The Business of Betting has become one of my favourite podcasts in recent years and I have learned so much from it that has helped me with writing my book. So it was great to get to talk to Jeff Edelstein about my book, Fine Margins.
While the focus is sports betting, the underlying questions are classic economics topics: How are prices set in markets focused on information? How competitive are these markets? How is dispersed information aggregated? Why are many consumers relatively insensitive to price? Which behavioural biases influence betting markets? And how is the emergence of prediction markets going to change things?
We also talked about how AI has changed the practical side of empirical research and its impact on college-level teaching.
Here it is on YouTube. It’s also available wherever you get your podcasts.
